My mini vacation
I was able to take my 14 year old daughter to Busch Gardens this past weekend. Since this school has the attendance policy that I do not agree with, I was only able to go for a few days. We had a great time, I rode all the roller coasters and did not feel like throwing up, that was awesome!!!! I wish the school's vacation would be at the same time as public schools to help us parents be able to be students and parents without either one having to take a backseat.

A Rose for Emily
This story just goes to show that regardless of what era we live in, it's all the same. People gossiped about this woman when she was alive and then went to her home after her death to gossip some more. Society can be very cruel and harsh. This was a lonely woman who wanted to be left alone and bothered no one but the busy bodies had to make it there business what she did and didn't do and with whom. No different today. unfortunately =(.

Things I Carry Everyday
The things I carry everyday would be my purse and cell phone. I'm not one to have alot of stuff in my purse, only the essentials (wallet, lip gloss, and keys). My cell phone is important because it is my main source of communication with my daughters. I need to be able to hear it or see it (if on vibrate) every second of the day. I am a single parent, so the first and only call they are going to make is to me=))

Peer Review Process
I think the peer review process is important, it allows us to be able to fix and correct any issues with our papers before turning them in for a final grade. I hope no one takes it personal when their paper is being analyzed, we are not professors and it is all done in a positive manner. I am happy to be able to fix my errors prior to turning in my final draft.

When Mr. Pirzada Came to Dine
I found it interesting that both cultures although different are very similar. I am from a Hispanic ethnic background and therefore I am very familiar with our culture. What I enjoy about this short story was the new information that I learned about the Muslim and India culture. Sometimes it important to hear and understand the trials and tribulations of others in order to appreciate what we have.

When Mr. Pirzada Came To Dine
I enjoyed this story, it was very descriptive. I thought the fact that he wanted to take the girls trick or treating for fear of their safety was sweet, he had just worked all day and walked to their house. I'm sure he was tired but still he was concerned. He took an interest in a tradition that was not his own, when he wanted to help carve the pumpkin also.

Group Writing Process
I like the group writing process, it is nice to be able to work with Dionne and Marina. I think 3 minds are better than 1 and 3 different points of view. It can be alittle more nerve racking because there are people who are depending on me to turn in an assignment on time. It is also a paper that is being shared with them so if I have an odd thought or opinion, I have just shared it with them.

Metaphors
I enjoyed the poem Metaphors. It was about the different stages and mental thoughts a person
has during those long 9 months. I have gone through 2 pregnancies and can relate to all the different
metaphors used. It is a very descriptive and clever poem. I will honest in saying, I was glad the "Writer's Guide" was available to help dissect the different metaphors.

Leaning to Blog
I am a firm believer in learning new things, in the English class I have had a refresher course on alot of new tools that are available on the net. I look forward to blogging with everyone, even some of my friends from
the Monday and Wednesday English Class. It is another form of networking that is availbale to us. I think I am going to enjoy sharing with all of you and await your reponses to my posts.

The story of "My Two Lives" by Jhumpa Lahiri
I enjoyed reading this short story. Jhumpa Lahiri reminded me of myself in alot of different aspects. I too come from a different heritage and now that I am a mom it is very important to me to teach my daughters theirs. In the story she mentions the day when her parents will no longer be around and how that part of family and tradition will begin to disappear. I experienced this with the passing of my father 11 years ago. Before his death, we had alot of family gatherings weekly and the holidays were over the top. Now we simply get together out of obligation and there is always someone absent with a prior commitment. I would also agree with the story when she speaks of her appreciation of her heritage at a middle age versus her adolescent years. I believe that wisdom and appreciation come with age.
My First Post
This is my first post on a blog in Hamon's English class, I'm not sure if I like it yet, it's too soon to tell.
